Shoe Stretcher – Helping Make Slightly Uncomfotable Shoes Easier to Wear
Nothing is worse than finding the perfect pair of shoes, and then finding that they are a bit too tight – or having a pair that you absolutely adore – only to find that they’ve gotten too small since you last tried them on. A shoe stretcher can add some width or length, although it cannot turn a size seven into a size eight – and can help you salvage some of the wear that is left in that favorite pair that you hate to toss out. One is also a great tool to have on hand to “break in” a new pair without the blisters and achy feet that often have some people hesitant to wear new shoes in the first place.
End Achy Tired Feet
Many women will simply not admit that their feet have gotten larger, and they continue to buy the same size shoes that they did when they were eighteen – two decades later. The simple fact of the matter is that the feet do get wider as we age (or at least most women’s feet do), and this is sometimes due to swelling. Shoes that are ill-fitting can certainly cause your feet to be tired and achy at the end of the day and if your feet hurt – you just don’t “feel” good. A shoe stretcher will help make those tight pairs more comfortable and take the “pinch” out of pinched toes.
How it Works
A stretcher is usually made of wood and is shaped somewhat like a shoe. You insert the stretcher into your shoe and “crank” an apparatus that is attached until the stretcher is at the size or width that you want the shoe to be at. You can stretch the width or the length, or both – depending on the stretcher you purchase (one way or two way). You leave it in the shoe for a period of time specified by the manufacturer, and then remove the stretcher and enjoy more comfortable shoes.
Not all shoes can be stretched to a bigger, more comfortable size. Those that are made from natural fibers like suede and leather, will be the best candidates for stretching. Some stretchers will require that you use stretching liquid alongside the stretcher in order for the process to work well. Some materials, like vinyl, for instance, cannot be stretched with a shoe stretcher.
